Light observation 26

Today I started messing around with a flashlight in the dark. I put the flashlight under my hand and was able to see my hand basically light up. It made me think about how light works its way through the skin and muscle, and light up on the other side.

Light observation 25

Sitting in class looking around for things to write for light journals, I started to realize the way light is reflected differently off of glossy surfaces compared to the wall or dull surfaces.

I noticed that the light is more reflected off of glossy surfaces, making a white light reflection.  When the light hits the wall, it isn't really reflected as much, but more so just puts an amber color up against the wall.

light observation 24

Last night I woke up in the middle of the night. I turned on my side table light because I was getting up to get a drink. The way the light was angled, it was very very bright. I turned the head of the lamp toward the corner of my room, and it knocked the light level down, but the reflections off of my walls still made it very easy for me to see my way around and not step on any cats

Light observation 23

Today I picked up my watch, put it on, and started seeing how the angle of light effected how well I can see the time. In fluorescent light, pretty much no matter which way i turned the watch, I was able to somewhat read what time it is. In incandescent light however, When my watch was turned approx. 90 degrees from the light source, it was blacked out.

Light post 22

Today while looking at the way light reflects of different surfaces, i started to recognize a pattern in what color the reflection is of certain colors. When the light is reflecting off a black surface, glossy or flat black, the light is a white color. When being reflected off silver surfaces, its was more of an amber/ yellow color.

Today I bought a new pair of plugs for my ears. The color is this nice dark olive green, and green is one of my favorite colors. The second I walked outside and got in my car, I looked in the mirror, and noticed the color had completely changed. The green became more tan/brown, and when the light hits its just right, a nice copper color sticks out, and the plugs become almost see through.

Light Blog 20

Today I was burning a candle. When the room is dark the reflection of the candle light off the wall is a nice amber color. As the reflection moves closer to the light source the light begins to turn white.

Light observation 19

The other night in lab we were learning how light is registered through a camera. We learned that in the case of warmer and colder colors, the higher the "color temp" on the kelvin scale, the bluer it is, and the Lower the color temp is on the kelvin scale, the red begins to show.

Light observation 18

Today my RGB light i ordered online came in.  I ordered it because the hat I have is made to react differently with each different color light. Each light makes different colors stick out more based on the kelvin scale of each light.

Light journal 17

The blue light which is on when my HD cable box is on is normally decently bright during the day. But in the Middle of the night it is almost blinding to look at.  I know it doesnt get any brighter, but its surroundings make it seem more intense.

Light journal 16

Today i was at the pool, jumped in with some change in the pocket of my bathing suit.  A few coins fell out, so I started re-collecting them.  I found it fairly hard to grab them on the first try due to the light bending when it broke the water surface.

light observation 15

When turning on fluorescent lights, it takes a quick second for the light to flicker and come on full power. But when you turn off the fluorescent, it shuts off immediately. When turning on an incandescent light, its almost backwards. It turns on immediately, but when you turn it off you can see the filament cooling down, and still glowing a bit.

light observation 14

Last night upon leaving lab, I looked up at the moon,  i couldn't see very many stars due to clouds, but the moon was in the perfect spot to be seen.  Its aura lit up the night sky and clouds around it. During the day you can barley see it (when it stays in sight), but at night its bright as hell.  I remember being in michigan and when there is snow on the ground, the moon lights the night up like it was day from reflecting off the snow.

Lighting post 13

In lab tonight, i sat on the stage for people to look how light reacts in person on a person, and on video. When the red/amber lights were on,  in person i felt i looked very orange,  but on camera i apparently looked red.

Light observation 12

With my room light(incandescent) and my kitchen light(fluorescent) on, and the hallway light off, just by walking from my room to the kitchen (8ft?), i can see a drastic difference in the color on my hand. In the fluorescent light my hand looks alot duller almost, and the red/pinkness around my knuckles and fingertips is not really noticeable. When under the incandescent light, i look my orange, and the pink sticks out alot more. Incandescent lights look better on skin then fluorescent.

Light observation 11

Today during the massive thunderstorms that hit (big surprise Florida), I couldn't help but realize the sun somewhat trying to work its way through the dark clouds. We all know light will work its way through almost anything, and in this case its was illuminating the clouds, in almost a purple aura.

Light observation 10

looking at a sprinkler today, i looked closely at the base where the water came out, and in the mist there was a rainbow. The mist has a prism like effect on the water, causing the rainbow.

Light observation 9

when my room is dimly lit( my lamp on in the corner, not the overhead light), the opal inlay on my guitar seem fairly dull and white. As the light intensity increased, or natural sunlight came into my room, they inlays come to life, showing all sorts of blues and reds, from which i am assuming is the different length waves hitting the opal at different angles.

Light observation 8

Today I awoke before the sunrise. The first thing i decided to do was look at my clock. Very bright green 5:02 stood out amongst the dark room. I fell back asleep and woke up again and looked at the clock. By this time it was light outside and the LED on the clock was noticeably dimmer due to the bright sunlight coming in my window (door wall).

Light blog 7

today during the Bill Whitlock presentation, I couldn't help but get distracted by many little things. One thing I couldn't figure out was the light getting under the door. The metal in the doorway on the ground was textured, and metal was lifted. Half of it was in light, and the other half was a shadow. Even though half way a shadow, light was still hitting of the textured surface, and somehow reflecting in the shadow.

Light observation 6

During the thunder storm today, I made it a point to watch the lightning from different angles to see its different color capabilities. When simply watching reflections in the house, it was a nice lavender, light purple color. When looking in the sky, the flash would appear blue, and when I saw the actual bolt, it was white.

Light observation day 5

After being awake to watch the sun rise, I figured I'd close out my little experience by looking at how the sun changes from its yellowish color on its way down (setting). To my surprise I did not see much of the dark amber/ orange color, but the sky turned into beautiful colors of pink/ purple. I think it may be because of the distance away the sun is at the time it sets.

Light observation day 4

Last night I had the pleasure of staying awake until the sun rose. I took note of what Susan was saying in class about the different color light at different times of the day and year. I noticed the color of the sun was a nice amber/ deep orange color when it first started to rise. It was easy to look at and the darkness began to fade as the sun slowly crawled into the sky. Before I could even remember to think, the sun was getting brighter, and started turning closer to white/ beginning to get painful to look at. The color change took place almost immediately.

Light Observation Day 3

Last night in lab we hung lights, and got to see the differences between all of them. I couldn't help but noticing the the light with the tightest circle (cant remember which one) had an almost glowing blue ring around the outside of it. All of the other lights seemed to wash out and just expand until they faded out. But this light was a nice kept circle, almost held in by the outlying blue glow.

Light journal day 2

Today in class i couldn't help but noticing that the few lights that were on, were dimming every once in a while. After it happened a few more times, I came to realize it happened every time the air conditioner turned on and off. Another thing i couldn't help but notice is the color of the light that was reflected on the ceiling behind the lights. Some were red, some were purple. Im thinking maybe it has to do with the different wavelengths coming off of different lights.

Light observation day #1

Last night I was having a bit of trouble sleeping, so I decided I was going to waste time on my computer. Upon opening it, I witnessed something that I never really paid any attention too. When first opened, the screen was very very bright, but it quickly dimmed itself. I began to realize that i didn't have to change the brightness, because my computer had already done it for me, based on how bright the room was.
